Makeup brushes. They're big or small, fluffy or stiff, well-made or shed like a cat in winter. There is a brush for everything from foundation to eyebrows. Finding right one that is of amazing quality and evenly distributes product can be difficult. You never know how well it works until you've already purchased it and brought it home. Well, I'm here to share my new favorite makeup brush set. I am in no way a beauty guru, but I know a good brush when I see one. Petunia Skincare's Professional 12 Set Makeup Brush Kit is a set to die for.

Petunia Skincare's set has everything from a spoolie to a foundation brush. Handmade wooden handles made to fit perfectly into your hand with pony, goat and synthetic hair to perfectly apply your makeup (no animals were harmed to create these makeup brushes). Animal hair does not hold color, which allows for perfect, even product distribution. There's no need to clean the brush after each application. The brushes come in a simple, sleek black pouch that magnetically snaps shut to protect them

from dust and dirt, plus it makes throwing it into your travel bag a breeze!

The first thing I noticed upon opening the box was a strong chemical smell. I'm not one to be offended by this type of scent, and I truly believe it may have been something they used to clean the brushes or pouch. (The scent dissipated after removing it from the box and setting it out). The pouch is an adorable black, faux snakeskin pattern. It's easily opened and unfolded. It lays flat without any curling to allow easy access to the brushes. The brushes fit perfectly into the slots, going in and out easily.

Immediately upon opening, I was impressed by the presentation. The brushes and the colors used were beautiful. Some of the brushes had protectors, which had done well at preserving most of the brushes. All except the fan brush. As for the brushes themselves, I went through each one and feel tested them. The brushes are soft and well put together. I wiggled the fuchsia metal portion and they seemed well applied.

As for the brushes themselves, I tried them immediately to test their durability, ease of use and distribution (in order from left to right):

Spoolie Brush: It's pretty hard to find a 'bad' spoolie. This one is pretty standard. Lip Brush: This little guy looked extremely confusing. It comes with a little cap that snaps onto the back, creating the handle. The brush was soft, but still stiff enough that it easily applied lip color from my lip color pallette. The hairs didn't splay or shed, just perfect application. Sponge Applicator: I didn't use this one, as I am not a fan of sponge applicators, but it seems like a good sponge. Eyeliner Brush: This brush came with a little plastic cap to keep the brush stiff and in line. I like my liner brushes to be a little more stiff, but still soft. This brush totally fits the bill. It applies liner sharp and straight, no deviating from the plan. Eyebrow Brush: I typically prefer a small angled brush for this job, but went ahead and used this brush for a few days. I am amazed at how natural my brows looked. I have crazy, bushy brows (think Anne Hathaway in Princess Diaries, pre-makeover). It applied the color perfectly. Concealer Brush: This brush was so soft. The hairs were well packed and angled just right. It applied my concealer well and there wasn't a ton of product left over on the brush. Fan Brush: I want to start off by saying I have never understood or liked fan brushes. I typically use them to "fan" away any fallen eye shadow. This brush was pretty rough when I took the protective sleeve off. The hairs were straggly and splayed in an unfortunate way. This brush didn't impress me at all. But it certainly didn't set the record for the previous or remaining brushes. Smudge Brush: I am in love with this brush. The way it smudges out color is brilliant. It's soft and fluffy, allowing for maximum smudging. And product doesn't get caught up in the bristles! The softness is the best part. Eyeshadow Brush: This brush is fabulous. It evenly distributes eyeshadow all over the lid and applies brilliantly. There is no left over product on the brush, which means you don't have to wash in between applications. Foundation Brush: This brush is so soft. I am typically a finger foundation girl, but no more! This brush applied my foundation so flawlessly, it looked amazing. It applied so evenly and blended very well. No more finger streaked foundation for this lady! Blush Brush: This brush came with a protective sleeve, which kept the brush in terrific condition. I have naturally red cheeks, so I typically don't have a need for blush. But with how amazing my foundation came out, I needed a little color. The blush went on lightly and beautifully. This blush formed to the apples of my cheeks perfectly. Powder Brush: Oh so fluffy! This brush was fantastically fluffy and soft. There wasn't any powder residue or "clumping". Over all I am super impressed with these brushes. I did clean them before use, and the chemical smell went away completely (I used warm water and an all natural shampoo). They maintained their shape and softness after washing. I've been using them every day since I received them and I cannot be more happy. If you are looking for quality makeup brushes and don't want to waste money trying to find the perfect brushes, Petunia Skincare's 12 Set Makeup Brush Kit is for you. *I received one or more products featured in this post complimentary for review.
