Gaming, action movies and heroes are popular in my house. My husband is the ultimate geek and I'm his geeky little wife.

I've been hunting for a geek subscription box for a while. I know all the typical ones, but wanted to cash in on one that wasn't too popular. I researched and looked for months, trying to find the perfect box.

I stumbled across a video by Johnny Tellez about a newer subscription called Herocrate. The name alone intrigued me. The box looked like a pretty good score and value. I caved and bought one for my husband.

Herocrate is a little different from your typical subscription box. You don't have to subscribe. You can get a box for $29.99(incl. S&H) or you can purchase a 3 month subscription for $83.97. Each box is guaranteed to have a t-shirt and 3-6 items. Free 2-day shipping is included!

Upon opening the box, the first thing I pulled out was a card that said Band of Brothers on the front with exclusive artwork created by an active duty, wounded vet. It was actually pretty neat. The card gave away the box theme, which was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (Themes are not released before the box arrives. However they do give hints). (MSRP: none. Original artwork.)

The second item was an exclusive 8-bit magnet that said "It's dangerous to go hungrt! Eat these!" and had 8-bit artwork from what would seem to be a TMNT video game. The magnet was pretty cool, but the actual print seemed to already be peeling off of the magnet. (MSRP: Unknown | Estimated $1.99)

Then there was the TMNT Vinyl Figure. This is a mystery figure. You don't know what you will get until you open it, but you know it is from TMNT. My husband got Splinter (2/16). It's a lot like a Funko POP vinyl, but smaller. He came with a little stick, bow, arrows and a quiver. (MSRP: $11.99)

The t-shirt was the best part of the box. It was a black tee with the turtles and Shell City on the front (reminiscent of Sin City). It came in the right size for the hubby and is a good, quality t-shirt. My husband really liked it and it fit really well. The design was awesome! (MSRP: $25.00)

The last item was the TMNT domed tin bank with Michelangelo as the art. The top was extremely difficult to put on and get off, so you can be guaranteed your money is well protected. It's a nice item, but seems a lot like what you might purchase at a dollar store. (MSRP: $7.00-8.00)

Overall, the box was pretty disappointing. I hate to dislike it, because the gentlemen that run the company are very sweet and kind, but it just didn't seem to stack up to even their previous boxes or like-boxes. The t-shirt was the only great value item, and the one item my husband got excited about. Everything else just seemed like filler. The cost of the items is definitely over the price of the box, but the quality of the items is just not up to par. Even my husband commented on the quality, and he's never had a subscription box of anything before. I feel there are boxes for the same price or less that have a much better quality of items.
